Kolkata, Feb. 15 (ANI): West Bengal Governor M. K. Narayan on Friday called for reconsidering the decision to remove city police commissioner R.K. Pachnanda in wake of the recent incidents of violence.
Narayan said that removal of the police chief is a matter of concern, and added that it should be evaluated.
"I don't know the reason why the police commissioner has been removed. But if it has something to do with what happened in the last few days, I think it is something that will have to be looked at very carefully," Narayan said.
"There may be several reasons why a police commissioner is removed. But if he is removed for what happened in the last few days, quite clearly there is something wrong, and we need to look at it," he added.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee yesterday removed the city police commissioner from his post. The latest development in this regard came two days after a policeman died in a clash between Congress and Trinamool Party workers during a college election in Kolkata.
ADG (Law and Order) Surajit Kar Purakayastha was appointed the new Kolkata Police chief after the removal of Pachnanda, who has been made the Director of Security, including the Chief Minister's security. (ANI)
