Bresnan 'racing against time' to be fit for Ashes following elbow surgery

London, Fri, 15 Feb 2013 ANI

London, Feb 15 (ANI): England all-rounder Tim Bresnan is facing a battle to regain his place in the national squad ahead of the back-to-back Ashes series after another operation on his right elbow.

According to the English and Wales Cricket Board, Bresnan had undergone an operation on his right elbow to remove extra bone and scar tissue, and would miss the start of the English season as he would be in a recovery period for three months, the Mirror reports.

The board added that Bresnan will be in a six to eight-week rehabilitation and back-to-back back-to-bowling programme before returning to competitive cricket in the summer.

The injury forced Bresnan to miss the current tour of New Zealand, and he is unlikely to be match-fit by the time England open their domestic campaign with a reciprocal Test series against the Kiwis starting at Lord's on May 16, the paper added.

With long-term doubts over the fitness of Twenty20 skipper Stuart Broad's heel, there are now question marks against the fitness of two members from England's Ashes-winning pace attack in Australia two years ago. (ANI)
