Congress criticises Mamata Banerjee for threatening journalists

Kolkata , Sun, 10 Feb 2013 ANI

Kolkata, Feb. 10 (ANI): Criticising West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for threatening mediapersons, Congress general secretary Shakeel Ahmad on Sunday said that such acts of attack on media are against the democratic ethos of the country.

According to some TV reports, Banerjee, earlier in the day, misbehaved with journalists and threatened to slap a photographer covering the Mati festival organized by her government.

"Media is the fourth pillar of democracy. If any one attacks media, he or she is not democracy friendly and it is not expected from a leader. Media should be allowed to do their job," said Ahmad.

Few days ago, Banerjee had scolded publicly one of her security personnel and told him that he should be slapped for his careless attitude. (ANI)
