Guwahati, Feb. 10 (ANI): Women sumo wrestlers held a bout for sports enthusiast at the 20th International Guwahati Trade Fair with an objective to promote the sport among young boys and girls.
The organisers of Guwahati International trade fair had introduced the SUMO exhibition match since last year with male sumo wrestlers.
"This is the first time in India that women's wrestling has been held and this is a historic moment for our country and all countrymen," said Trade fair Organiser, Rajesh Das.
The exhibition matches that began on February 9 will continue till February14.
The two women participating were Sharran Alexander and Amanda Wilcox who are both world-renowned sport persons.
The fair also had stalls from various countries promoting their handicrafts and other products.
"We have gotten handicrafts and Gorkha "Kukris" (traditional knives) from Bhandar. Our handicrafts are mostly made out of wood and we are getting a good response," said Ganesh Kumar Lohani, a stall owner from Nepal.
Organized by the Industries and Trade Fair Association of Assam (ITFAA) in association with the National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC), with a display of over micro, small, medium enterprises (MSMEs) from all over the country. (ANI)
