Bhubaneswar, Feb 10 (IANS) Police and security forces Sunday unearthed arms and explosives concealed by Maoists in a dump in Odisha, an official said.

A joint team of the paramilitary forces and police recovered landmines and guns during a raid in a forest near Palur village in Koraput district, over 500 km from here, Superintendent of Police Awinash Kumar told IANS.

Four landmines weighing 25 kg each, two county-made guns, wires and other materials used in making explosives were recovered from the dump, he added.

The rebels had kept the explosives and arms for their future use against police and security forces, Kumar said.

Maoists are active in more than half of the state's 30 districts. The district of Koraput is considered one of their strongholds.
