Haryana,Politics,Defence/Security, Wed, 06 Feb 2013 IANS

Gurgaon, Feb 6 (IANS) Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh has demanded Z-plus security provided by the elite National Security Guard (NSG), an official said here Wednesday.

NSG's Director General (DG) Arvind Ranjan said Raman Singh may soon be guarded by NSG commandos, the Black Cats.

Raman Singh had sought 24x7 Z-plus security cover to thwart attacks from Maoists in insurgency-affected Chhattisgarh. His request is pending with the home ministry.

The chief minister is currently guarded by a special squad of the state police.

"Seventeen people in the country have Z-plus security," Rajan said at the NSG's base camp at Manesar in Haryana.

"The category of security given to an individual is under the discretion of the home ministry. The threat perception is taken into account based on inputs from the Intelligence Bureau. The category of security can also be withdrawn depending on the threat perception," Rajan added.
