Khurshid congratulates Kerry, looks to take Indo-US bilateral strategic relationship forward

New Delhi, Feb. 6 (ANI): External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has congratulated John F. Kerry on his appointment as Secretary of State, and said that he looks forward to working with him to take forward the India-US bilateral strategic relationship, which is at a historically unprecedented high, to a further higher level encompassing diverse sectors.

The US side initiated a telephone call from Secretary of State John F. Kerry (JK) to the External Affairs Minister at 1840 hrs (Santiago time) i.e 1440 hrs (EST of US) on 5 February. The call lasted for about seven minutes, official sources said.

Khurshid, who mentioned that he is delighted on John F. Kerry's assumption of this high responsibility in the US Government, said that he is aware of his enormous talent in handling of South Asia related matters in the recent years.

Khurshid also recounted Kerry's significant contribution in furthering India-US relationship during his tenure as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

John F. Kerry thanked Khurshid for his kind words towards him. He was highly appreciative of the External Affairs Minister's congratulatory letter soon after his confirmation as Secretary of State by the US Senate, official sources added.

Kelly requested Khurshid to convey his respect to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. In this context, he recalled his visit to India with a large business when Dr. Singh was the Finance Minister and also his fond memories of that meeting.

Khurshid said that he is eagerly looking forward to John F. Kerry's visit to India for the third 'Annual India-US Strategic Dialogue' to be held later during the year. (ANI)
