Mumbai, Feb 3 (IANS) Armed with a route map in Braille, over 100 visually impaired navigators directed their partner drivers over a 65-km route in the seventh edition of the Blind Man's Car Rally here Sunday.

The participants gave step-by-step driving directions through a series of check points to their sighted partners behind the wheel during the time-speed-distance (TDS) car rally.

The drivers strictly adhered to the directions given by the blind navigators and took no turn on their own.

Organised by Round Table India in association with the National Association for the Blind (NAB), the rally was aimed at raising funds for its projects under the aegis of the national theme 'Freedom through Education'.

"The aim of this rally is to create awareness that we all are responsible for our society. It matters least whether we are visually impaired or not. We can bring change in the country, good or bad only if we have a concern and correct attitude," said K. Ramakrishna Hon. Secretary, NAB.

"This rally is a small effort to join hands and fight against odds. This rally aims to achieve economic freedom through education in India."

Filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar flagged off the rally. "I am delighted to be associated with a noble initiative, which is contributing to the movement of educating millions of underprivileged children," he said.
