Hussey says extended Oz squad necessary for potential challenges in India

Sydney , Sun, 03 Feb 2013 ANI

Sydney, Feb 3 (ANI): Former Australian Test cricketer Michael Hussey has supported Cricket Australia's move in sending an extended squad to India, and said that the move is necessary to prepare the players for the potential difficulties in India.

Hussey, who criticised the omission of his brother David Hussey and George Bailey from the Test squad, said that batting in the middle order in India is a tough challenge as the batsmen have to face a ball that is either reverse-swinging or is spinning a lot, News.com.au reports.

Hussey said that one of the major challenges for the Australian bowlers are the lower and slower pitches which would be difficult for the seam bowlers who are used to pace and bounce.

He advised that the bowlers will have to find different ways to get wickets, like attacking the stumps and swinging the ball, adding that the players need to be confident as self-doubt can lead to trouble in India.

Praising the selection of Moises Henriques and Glenn Maxwell, Hussey said that the India tour is a great opportunity for both the players and the selectors, as the pair offer a flexibility through either a seam or spin-bowling all-rounder. (ANI)
