Yashwant Sinha says BJP will surge if Modi declared PM candidate

New Delhi, Mon, 28 Jan 2013 ANI

New Delhi, Jan. 28 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yashwant Sinha on Monday said that declaring Narendra Modi as Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2014 general elections would substantially benefit the party.

Sinha, while interacting with media persons here, said: "Wherever I go, the party workers and common people demand to make Modi as BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate, and now I too think that it will benefit the party a lot. But, it is up to the party leadership to decide on the issue."

While asked about objection of the ally partner Janata Dal- United (JD-U) to the proposal, Sinha said: "JD-U is one of oldest ally/ partner of the BJP, but it isn't fair on their part that they declare an individual as 'communal' and say that the rest of the party is secular."

Reacting to Sinha's remark, JD-U leader Shivanand Twari said that this is their internal matter and every party is free to debate and discuss their issues internally.

"Its may be Sinha's views, but is yet to come out as an official announcement. When they will come out with an official position we will decide what to do," said Tiwari.

Earlier on Sunday, Modi had met the new BJP president Rajnath Singh here and the duo discussed future course of action regarding the 2014 elections. (ANI)
