Visakhapatnam, Jan. 27 (ANI): Amid rising crime against women in the country, large number of young girls in Visakhapatnam city of Andhra Pradesh participated in a self defence training programme to learn combat skills.
"This is a very good step. The girls will feel safe and their confidant level will go up after such training programme. They will be able to defend themselves in any situation," said Swati Lakada, the Director General of Police (DIG) of Vishakhapatnam city.
"We got an opportunity to show that girls are no more less than boys. Even we can do anything that boys can do, and we are able to do anything. We also got nice teachers to teach us everything, to defence ourselves and even to attack them," said Josie, a young participant.
The 15-day long training camp, organised by the local YMCA (Young Masters Christian Association), started on January 26 and would be teaching the young girls various martial arts and techniques like karate, judo, kick boxing and aikido as self defence techniques. (ANI)
