Bidhan Nagar (W.Bengal), Jan.26 (ANI): A raging inferno engulfed a slum area in Basanti Colony in Bidhan Nagar town of the North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal on Saturday.
The firemen struggled to douse the fire as several shanties were gutted.
The fire broke out early in the morning and spread to several huts and within a short span of time, and reduced them to ashes.
The people from the settlement rushed out to save their lives and no casualty was reported from the site of fire so far.
People were seen pouring water on the raging flames and they tried to prevent their household items from gutting as they tried to take it take out their huts.
About eleven fire tenders were used to douse the fire.
Saturday's fire came a day after 50 shanties were gutted by a blaze in Mumbai. (ANI)
