New Delhi, Jan 23 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Wednesday asked the Saket district judge to file a status report explaining about the missing files of a 20-year-old rape case, whose trial has been held up.

The division bench of Chief Justice D. Murugesan and Justice V.K. Jain asked the district judge to file the report within one week and posted the matter for Jan 30.

The court's direction came on a petition alleging that the day after the accused got bail 19 years ago, the case had not moved a step forward.

On June, 1993, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Connaught Place by Karan Pal. The police arrested the accused and filed the charge sheet Sep 27, 1993. However, during proceedings the case file went missing and could not be traced since then. The accused was released on bail on Feb 23, 1994.

The petition was filed by high court lawyers Shweta Singh and Sarika Mehta.
