Lalgarh (West Bengal), Jan. 23 (ANI): The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Wednesday announced a 'Civic Action Programme' in Maoist-infested Lalgarh district of West Bengal, with an objective to effectively combat extremism and bridge the gap between the villagers and the administration.
Briefing mediapersons, top CRPF officials said here that under this programme, medicines, sports kits, stationery items and other essential commodities would be distributed among villagers and youth.
"We have distributed essential commodities to around 150 people in accordance with our budget. Although we cannot provide them cent percent facilities, it is a continuous process. We will distribute to some more people and will try to provide these items to those people who have not received these benefits," said Shankarlal Sengupta, Commandant of the CRPF's 50th battalion.
Amal Mahato, a villager, said: "We are getting facilities from them (CRPF), as now many youths are getting training in driving and cricket coaching. They have also provided football accessories and organising dance and cultural programmes."
Under this innovative programme, the CRPF organised dance and drama competitions to encourage the spirit of learning extra-curricular activities among the villagers.
The Civic Action Programme by the CRPF aims to inculcate a sense of security by developing cordial relations and harnessing co-operation with villagers living in tribal areas. (ANI)
