Sydney, Jan 23(ANI): Veteran Australian batsman David Hussey will make a dash from Hobart to Adelaide Oval on Thursday for what appears to be his one last shot at selection for the Test tour of India.
Victorian Hussey and South Australia's Test No.3 Phil Hughes were cleared by Cricket Australia (CA) on Tuesday to play in the Sheffield Shield match between the Redbacks and Victorian Bushrangers, despite the expectation that the pair will play for Australia in today's one-day international against Sri Lanka in Hobart, News.com.au reports.
With the squad for Australia's tour of India to be announced on January 31, Hussey, who remains hopeful of replacing his retired brother Mike in the Test team, needs runs on the batsman-friendly Adelaide Oval to push his claims, the paper added.
The earliest flight out of Hobart to Adelaide is on Thursday at 6 am less than eight hours after the likely finish of the one-day, and arriving barely two hours before the Sheffield Shield start time of 11 am, the paper further reported.
Victorian officials reportedly hadn't decided on their final XI for the Shield clash, but SA was yesterday bargaining on Hussey's inclusion, it added.
Coach Darren Berry had penned Hussey's name at No.4 on a whiteboard circulated among Redbacks players ahead of yesterday's net session, the paper concluded. (ANI)
