Srinagar, Jan 21 (IANS) Three policemen were suspended from duty and a station house officer (SHO) removed Monday in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district for alleged excesses during a police raid here, officials said.

"Acting on the direction of the deputy commissioner, the superintendent of police (Kulgam) today (Monday) placed three police officials under suspension besides attaching SHO of police station Kulgam for alleged excesses in a raid carried out during the intervening night of Jan 19/20 at Laro village," said an official statement issued here.

A special police officer (SPO) has also been removed from service in this connection.

People of the village were staging a protest over the last two days demanding stern action against the officials for excesses when police early Jan 20 raided a house to arrest some members of a family in connection with an FIR lodged against them.

The deputy commissioner visited the village and the house where the incident took place Monday morning before issuing the orders for the suspension and removal.

Pacified by the prompt action, the people later called off the agitation.
