NTPC Q3 profits up 22 percent

New Delhi, Jan 21 (IANS) India's largest power generator National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Monday reported a 21.89 percent rise in net profit at Rs.25.97 billion in the third quarter ended December 2012 as against Rs.21.30 billion in the same period last year.

The company in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) said its total income in the third quarter of current fiscal rose to Rs.165.3 billion from Rs.162.44 billion in the year-ago period, which is an increase of 1.76 percent

Net sales of the company increased 2.89 percent to Rs.157.75 billion for the quarter as compared to Rs.153.32 billion in the corresponding period a year ago.

NTPC currently has a generation capacity of 39,674 MW.

Shares of the company on BSE closed 1.46 percent down at Rs.161.75.
