Kolkata, Jan 21 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee has said the new Kolkata airport terminal is an example of how the public sector can also create a world-class facility.
Inaugurating the new integrated terminal of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport yesterday, Mukherjee said the modernised facility would also be useful as Kolkata would be an important place in terms of the 'Look East' policy of the government.
"Kolkata is the gateway to the east. The airport can play an important role in India's Look East policy, especially in view of the directional change in international trade from the west to the east," he added.
Asserting that the airports serve as gateways to the country, Mukherjee said: "The first impression about a city and the state of its infrastructure comes from the facilities available at the Airport."
"It is, therefore, important that all stake holders concerned work together and present the best possible image of India," he added.
With a capacity to handle 20 million passengers annually, the Rs 2,300-crore terminal has been developed by the joint venture of ITD Cementation India Ltd and its parent company Italian-Thai Development Public Co. Ltd, Thailand (ITD). (ANI)
