Srinagar, Jan 21 (IANS) Shops and businesses remained closed in city centre Lal Chowk and adjacent areas Monday to remember the 1990 killings of 40 protesters in Gaw Kadal area of the city in firing by security forces.
Shops and business establishments remained closed in Lal Chowk, Residency Road, Maisuma, Gaw Kadal and other places in the city to remember the death of protesters.
Separatist leaders, including hardline Syed Ali Geelani and Hilal Ahmad War of the People's Political Party Monday called for a remembrance shutdown .
Life in other parts of summer capital Srinagar and other towns, however, remained normal.
