New Delhi, Jan 17 (IANS) Five people, including a government hospital employee, were arrested for illegally supplying government hospital medicines here, police said Thursday.
Neeraj Kumar, Sachin Gupta, Hari Shankar, Hari Nath and Ram Vir Singh were arrested from their hideouts in Delhi between Jan 14 and 15 and medicines worth Rs.12 lakh were seized.
Police said the recovered medicines were meant to be distributed in Railway hospitals, ECHS hospitals, ESI hospitals and SGM hospitals.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Neeraj and Sachin used to illegally sell the medicines through Hari Shankar.
Hari Nath is an employee of the ECHS (Ex-serviceman's Contributory Health Scheme) poly clinic on the city's Bhisam Pitamah Marg.
"According to rough estimates, the group managed to supply medicines worth over Rs.50 lakh in Delhi and other states in the past three years. Some of these medicines are very expensive," said S.B.S Tyagi, deputy commissioner of police (crime and railways).
