Kolkata, Jan 17 (IANS) Renowned painters from India and Bangladesh are set to join hands with differently abled children from the city at a cultural festival here Jan 24.

"Renowned painters from India and Bangladesh will sit side by side and paint with the differently abled children who have demonstrated interest in art. This will boost their confidence and inspire them to take up art later on," said Debajyoti Roy, secretary of NGO National Institute of Professionals (NIP) that is organising the festival in association with West Bengal government's social welfare department.

The day-long programme will see the participation of Indian artists like Prakash Karmakar, Subrata Gangopadhyay, and musicians and singers like Debajyoti Mishra, Srabani Sen and Srikanta Acharya.

According to Roy, at least ten celebrated artists, musicians and poets from Bangladesh have confirmed their attendance at the fest, but the list is still to be finalised.

"We hope the established artists will see the level of ability in some of the differently abled children. We hope the interaction will be meaningful to the children, and help them gain confidence," said state disability commissioner Mita Banerjee.
