Cycling commentator Liggett finally accepts Armstrong 'cheated'

Sydney , Thu, 17 Jan 2013 ANI

Sydney, Jan 17 (ANI): The voice of international cycling, Phil Liggett, who has backed Lance Armstrong for long even after doubts over his doping scandal aroused, has finally accepted that the American had cheated all his way to win seven Tour de France titles.

Liggett's concession comes a day before the disgraced seven-time Tour de France champion is set to confess to doping during his career in a recorded interview with talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, News.com.au reports.

Liggett said Armstrong's confession to doping has brought pleasure to many people, including him and his commentary team, from what they had seen in the past.

Liggett said Armstrong has cheated throughout his career and has let down his supporters and fans badly.

However, the famous commentator believes Armstrong is still a great athlete and the drugs he used were to beat the very, very best at the very top, adding one could argue that those athletes he beat, many of them have already served time for taking drugs as well.

Liggett said he doesn't hate Armstrong for deceiving him and his millions of fans, adding the banned cyclist's admission could help the game move on. (ANI)
