New York, Jan. 16 (ANI): 5,834 people participated in a snowball fight in Seattle to create a new Guinness World Record.
The event, dubbed "Snow Day," was the brainchild of organizer Neil Bergquist and his friends, who said that they wanted nothing more than to have a big snowball fight-a task that was made difficult by the fact that the city has barely seen even flurries this winter.
According to KING5 News, Bergquist and his friends got in touch with a local construction company, KLB Construction, to rent out equipment that allowed them to deliver more than 160,000 pounds of snow into the city, the New York Daily News reported.
The company brought in 34 truckloads of snow from Snoqualmie Pass to a patch of land in downtown Seattle.
With months of meticulous planning, Bergquist turned "Snow Day" into a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs of King County.
To raise money, the local companies were given the opportunity to donate money in exchange for spaces to build snow forts. In the end, the event was able to raise more than 50,000 dollars.
Guinness adjudicators verified a count of 5,834 people participating in the official 90-second snowball fight and presented Bergquist with a record certificate.
The previous record was set in 2010 by 5,400 snow-lovers in South Korea. (ANI)
