Arunachal Pradesh celebrates 150th birth centenary of Swami Vivekananda

Itanagar, Jan 12(ANI): "When India is groping around in the dark with humanity put to shame and trying to find its way, is there a way out? Yes, there is .... by following the ideals of great saint Swami Vivekananda in letter and spirit," said Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, in his address to a huge gathering of Young India at the Indira Gandhi Park here today.

"Celebrating 150th birth anniversary of Swamiji would enliven history as world would be reminded of his vision for an end to violence and fanaticism. His message of the 18th Century is as timely and befitting in the 20th Century, as it was then, about 119 years ago," he emphatically said.

He also highighted his government's vision to channelize youth power through the State Skill Development Council, the State Employment Generation Council under the State Skill Development Mission and the Chief Minister's Livelihood Mission School Scheme of providing one school in each of the state's 60 assembly constituencies, to generate one lakh employment in next five years (2012-2017) by providing employment to each family.

He congratulated the Vivekananda Kendra for selflessly rendering yeomen service to the people of the state along with rest of the country, particularly for brining the light of education and

He said that youth-oriented programs would boost the morale and confidence of "our energetic youths and help them in building a strong and vibrant nation as dreamt of by the great saint."

He also announced a state government grant of Rs.50 lakh to the Swami Vivekananda Sardha Shati Samaroh (SVSSS) Celebration Committee for making the event a grand success.

"Nationalism and spiritualism have taken a back seat negatively impacting the social, intellectual and political life of Indians, Dr. Joram Begi, Prant Pramukh, Vivekananda Kendra, Arunachal Pradesh, said with deep concern, citing the example of recent New Delhi gang rape murder, the negative trend in AAPSU election and the Aalo incident.

Recalling the Swamiji's faith in the younger generation, Dr. Begi said India has 55 percent of its population young, and therefore, it was time for the country to wake up to enlighten the world.

SVSSS Prant President Nabam Atum said the state has immensely benefitted from the philosophy of Swamiji, who had awakened the world by his monumental call "Stop not till the goal is reached".

In all, 34 VKVs besides RKM institutions, are working for the upliftment of the people in the state, he said, adding that India would be a super power if we follow the principles of Swamiji and the world would be the most peaceful planet.

Arunachal Pradesh celebrated Swamiji's 150th birth centenary with a massive programme in the state capital Itanagar,that began with a procession by school students.

A colourful cultural programme by students drew applause, particularly for the Itanagar VKV team for its song in 11 major languages, reflecting the richness of state's cultural mosaic.

The gathering included people from all walks of life, including PWD, Finance and Planning Minister Chowna Mein, legislators, senior officers and RKM secretary Swami Vishweshananda.
