Ballia (Uttar Pradesh), Jan.11 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday met family members of the 23-year-old woman who was gang raped on a moving bus on the night of December 16,and promised them all possible help from the state government.
Yadav met the family at their native Medawar Kala village and spent about 30-minutes with them.
He spoke to the male members of the family outside the house and later went inside to meet the victim's mother to express his condolences.
The chief minister also presented a cheque of Rs.20 lakhs to the parents of the victim, who died on December 29 at a Singapore hospital.
Yadav later tyold media that it was gruesome incident and that his government has extended help to the family.
He described the family's loss as immense and an event that could never be compensated.
The chief minister also announced that a primary health centre (PHC) would be set up in the village for which land has been made available, but denied that it would be named after the girl, saying that there was no such provision under the law.
Yadav said the paramedical student was the family's hope for better future, but could not be saved.
There is a need to initiate concrete steps to deal with rapists, he said. (ANI)
