London, Jan 5 (ANI): The US regulator's decision to clear Google of manipulating search results charges will not affect its European Union's examination of the company, the European Commission has said.
Michael Jennings, a spokesman for the European Commission, said that the Federal Trade Commission's decision would not have any direct implications on their investigation against Google.
Google was accused of manipulating its search results to disadvantage competitors, of misusing its patents and of 'scraping' content from review sites without payment, the Telegraph reports.
The FTC decided that there was no evidence of the manipulation of search results other than to give the best performance.
It said that Google agreed to license 'essential patents' and let sites opt-out of scraping.
According to the paper, European investigators, however, face greater legal pressure than their US counterparts because they could be sued by complainants such as Microsoft, and Google's search engine is more dominant on the continent than in America. (ANI)
