Shinde launches pilot project of crime and criminal tracking systems

New Delhi, Jan 4 (ANI): Union Home Minister Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde has said that government wants to make use of technology in bringing greater transparency and accountability into government functioning, and added that Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) is an important step forward in this direction.

Speaking at the pilot launch of CCTNS here today, Shinde said that the key to success of the project requires a significant change management effort.

" All the States and Union Territories across the length and breadth of the country are in the process of implementing the CCTNS project," he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Home R.P.N Singh said that the pilot launch of the CCTNS Project would create a nation-wide environment for the real-time sharing of crime and criminal information.

He said that the credit for this pilot launch goes to the State police forces and the relentless support and guidance provided by MHA and National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) officials.

The CCTNS is a mission mode project under the National e-Governance Plan of Government of India. It aims at creating a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of policing through adopting the principle of e-Governance.

The project also includes the creation of a nationwide networking infrastructure for evolution of IT-enabled-state-of-the-art tracking system around 'Investigation of crime and detection of criminals'.

Minister of State for Home M. Ramchandran, Union Home Secretary R.K. Singh and senior officers from MHA and NCRB attended the function.

Chief Secretaries and Director Generals of Police of different states were also present and they were requested to adopt this project in their respective state on priority. (ANI)
