Barton hit by burglars while celebrating son's first birthday

London, Thu, 03 Jan 2013 ANI

London, Jan 3(ANI): Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton was hit by burglars while he was celebrating his son, Cassius' first birthday.

Barton, who is on loan to French club Marseille, was hosting a zoo-themed party for Cassius nearby when the callous thieves struck, the Sun reports.

The rogues shattered windows to break in to the home of the midfielder's partner's mum, where he and his family had been staying over Christmas, and they even smashed Cassius's Christmas toys while searching for gems and cash, it reported.

It is thought the raiders, who fled with a family safe, knew they wouldn't be disturbed because they were monitoring Barton's Twitter posts which showed he was at the party 15 minutes away, the paper said.

The home, in West Derby, Liverpool, is owned by Denise McNeil, whose 25-year-old daughter Georgia is Barton's long-term partner and Cassius's mum.

Barton, given a 12-month Premier League ban for violent conduct last May, was yesterday travelling back to France, where he is on loan to Marseilles. (ANI)
