Khwaja must not expect automatic recall to Oz Test squad

Melbourne , Tue, 01 Jan 2013 ANI

Melbourne, Jan.1 (ANI): The sudden retirement of Mike Hussey won't guarantee gifted New South Wales left-hander Usman Khawaja an automatic recall to the Australian Test team.

Khawaja has been in wonderful form this domestic season, blasting an unbeaten 66 off 47 balls in the Big Bash League on Sunday, and is again the standby batsman for injured skipper Michael Clarke for the Sydney Test.

But Cricket Australia is prepared to look at rookie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for the Sydney Test and at least next month's tour of India.

Khawaja said he was as shocked as anybody when Hussey called it quits on the weekend, but was not prepared to assume he was the first cab off the rank to replace him.

He said that while he was in good form, he could only say that he could give himself the best opportunity to take it. (ANI)
