Melbourne, Jan 20 (ANI): The surgeon, who performed Mike Hussey's hamstring operation on Tuesday, has said the 35-year-old would be fit for Australia's third match against Sri Lanka in Colombo on March 5.
Hussey's World Cup campaign is alive after the injured left-hander received the green light to resume training in 10 days.
The quarter-finals do not begin until March 23 and Hussey is almost certain to be afforded time by Cricket Australia medicos to prove his fitness for the sudden-death phase.
Hussey flew home yesterday to begin immediate treatment, FOX Sports reports.
Melbourne medico David Young said he would be stunned if Australia's middle-order batsman was cut from the 15-man squad.
"There's a lot of misinformation out there. I just don't want the selectors to read stuff about Michael missing two or three months because that's wrong. By doing a very simple tendon transfer, Michael will be healed at four weeks. I'm expecting him to be at full training in four weeks and definitely playing at five or six weeks," Young said.
"That's around the start of the World Cup, so to exclude Australia's in-form batsman from the World Cup would be a travesty. Michael has responded extremely well. He's on the way home, he'll have 10 days off and then he'll do some light training," he said.
Hussey's state coach, Western Australia's Mickey Arthur, said the veteran of 151 one-day internationals was in good spirits. (ANI)
