Baba Ramdev takes on Congress over corruption and coal scam issues

New Delhi, Sat, 01 Sep 2012 NI Wire

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev Saturday attacked on Congress over the issue of alleged multi-million coal scam. He was slamming congress on the basis of the recent report of the Comptroller and Auditor General on allocation of coal blocks.

Accusing Congress for setting up a new benchmark of corruption, Ramdev said, "Congress is setting new records of scams. I would describe the coal scam in three words- corruption, loss and brokering."

Ramdev claimed that Congress pocketed about Rs. 10-20 lakh crore by way of brokerage in the coal block allocation.

"About 142 coal blocks containing over 50 billion tonnes of coal worth Rs. 200 lakh crore were allocated without auction to firms related to Congress, or to those who played heavy brokerage to the Congress," he alleged.

"So scam is of 200 lakh crore and loss is 10-20 lakh crore. And after this loot, Congress shamelessly claims that their government is honest, and the Prime Minister is honest. If a PM responsible for a scam worth Rs. 200 lakh crore is honest, then who is dishonest?" Ramdev said.

He further alleged conspiracy and double standards by the Centre against his trusts.

"Even the government hasn't done as much in the field of Ayurveda as Patanjali has in last two decades. The donations that we got from all over the world, they named it income, they termed our service as business, and imposed taxes on our trusts. Congress spokespersons brazenly claim that I have looted the country. What kind of justice is this?" Ramdev said.

Accusing the ruling party of following double standards against his trusts, a visibly upset Ramdev said, "Over 5 lakh trusts operate in this country, the work done by them is service, and our service is business. Why this double standard?"

He added that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has served him notices to "degrade" his trusts.

"The ED notices have been sent to degrade the trust. Since the time we have formed it, we haven't hid even a penny from them," he said.
