'INDRA-2012' Indo-Russian joint exercise to combat terrorism

To combat terrorism activities and its fighting against the growing danger of terrorist, India and Russia started an anti terrorism military exercise INDRA-2012. The opening of INDRA-2012 military exercise is going to be held in the Siberian republic of Buryatia, Russea.

It is noted that both countries have conducted five INDRA-series joint ground and naval exercises since 2003. The last such exercise was held in India in October 2010.

By the exercise if INDRA-2012, some 500 servicemen about 250 on each side will take part in the drills, which will be conducted using some 50 Russian combat vehicles.

It is aimed to be the participants will carry out a number of firing, tactical and driving drills until August 12, which will be helpful during fighting against terrorism.

From Russia part, it is expected that a motorist infantry and a tank companies, a mortar and a MLRS battalions including a grenade launcher platoon will take part in the exercise.

The exercise will be held on August 7 at the Burduny training range. The active phase of the exercises will begin Aug 13 and include reconnaissance, pursuit and elimination of "terrorist groups."
