Delhi Minister of Higher Education, Dr. A K Walia has instructed the Department to look into the issue of problems relating to admission in colleges. He asked the Department to conduct an in depth study to ascertain the causes of problem which is likely to magnify in the next years. Dr. Walia today held discussions with the Secretary, Higher Education, Lalmalswama and other senior officers to get abreast of the functioning of the Department.
Dr. Walia underlined the importance of taking short term and long-term measures to ensure admission opportunities to students in Delhi. He further instructed the Department to take note of lack of infrastructure in certain professional colleges affiliated to the IP University. Dr. Walia also asked the Department to get it prepared for constructions of the East Campus of IP University. He instructed the Department to explore possibilities of increasing seats under Dr. Ambedkar University by way of opening a few constituent colleges. This will help in overcoming admission problem.
Dr. Walia was briefed about the Delhi Government’s fully funded and partially aided colleges under University of Delhi. He was also informed about the status of the state universities in Delhi. Dr. Walia has initiated process of having useful interaction with the Vice Chancellors of all state universities. He will be discussing the issues with them each vice Chancellor separately. He has also instructed the Department to come out with an information brochure to disseminate all relevant information in respect of all state universities and Deemed Universities.
