Editors Guild criticizes for targeting media in Mumbai

The Editors Guild of India had condemned the effort in which media persons were targeted in Mumbai on Saturday during a demonstration against the ethnic violence is Assam and Myanmar. Guild has said that it is matter of grave concern by which the media persons were attacked and demanded government for a through probe.

Editors Guild of India, said in a statement that the attack on the media persons during a Muslims protests is condemnable and police should deal with the attackers sternly.

It urged the Maharashtra government to order a thorough probe into the incident and demanded that those responsible for the mayhmen be dealt with sternly.

Guild said that burning of three media OB vans and attacks on the reporters and photographers of The Hindu, Sakaal Times and number of others and smashing their equipment to destroy evidence, shows a design to teach a lesson to those who had reached Azad Maidan to do their duty.

It is noted that two people were killed, including one in police firing, when thousands took to the streets to condemn attacks on Muslims in Assam and Myanmar. They were protesting the violence in Assam and Myanmar but mob become violently and targeted media and Police.
