Yoga guru Baba Ramdev yesterday urged new President Pranab Mukherjee to make to reduce the price of petrol and make it available to the common people at 'basic price', which would help to eliminate poverty from the country.
"We respect our newly appointed President who wants to remove poverty. But how poverty will be removed if the petrol is sold at Rs. 70 per litre," Baba Ramdev said.
"The basic price of petrol is Rs. 30. So, does the government increase or decrease the inflation? We appeal to the President that if he wants to remove poverty then petrol should be sold at the basic price, then India will be happy," he said.
Baba Ramdev, who visited Jantar Mantar on Friday to support the agitation of Anna Hazare, also attacked Government for not acting fair in regard to the passage of the ombudsman bill in the parliament.
"Anna Hazare has asked for a strong ombudsman bill for the removal of corruption. Now the bill will have to be brought in or else India shall not rest in peace. There is a big reason behind this law. If they are not corrupt what why are facing problems in bringing in the ombudsman bill? " he said.
He further stated that quite a few sacrifices will have to be made to achieve victory in this fight against corruption.
"No prize is achieved without paying a price, and we are ready to pay any price. Earlier, there used to be bloody revolutions and today there are democratic revolutions. This is an age of intellectual revolution where we will have make sacrifices. Different types of questions are raised every time. Why do the common people intervene? Why do the ascetics intervene? Why does Anna intervene? Good people have always intervened from time to time and have saved the country," said Baba Ramdev.
Earlier, Team Anna announced their indefinite fast in Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on Wednesday against the UPA government on the issue of corruption.
Three close members of team Anna are sitting on a hunger strike at the Jantar Mantar here.
Moreover, Anna, who is presently sitting on a dharna, has given the Govt a 96-hour-long deadline to announce a strong and effective Lokpal Bill.
