Mamta hints her own way, no need of Congress in West Bengal

Kolkata, Sat, 21 Jul 2012 NI Wire

West Bengal chief minister Mamta Banerjee has clearly indicated that now Trinamul Congress has not any need for Congress in ruling West Bengal and party will fight coming panchayat polls alone. Adding that TMC is capable of going it alone in the state and it is self sufficient, now it is free to go its own way in future. However she asserted that her party will be a part of UPA in center but not on the cost of its pride and dignity.

Addressing to a public rally here, Mamta Banerjee said , "We are not dependent on anybody. We will fight alone in Bengal. We don't survive on anybody's mercy. This is our own struggle. We have the majority to run the government."

"There are some state Congress leaders, who sit in the studios of various CPI-M (Communist Party of India-Marxist) backed television channels and give lectures criticising our government. As if we are running the government at their mercy. No, they should know they are here because of us. Their (state Congress) only job is to abuse us,"she added.

However she clearly mentioned that her alliance with Congress in center as a part of UPA will be continue so long as TMC is treated with respect and dignity.

Needless to say, the relationship between TMC and Congress at center remained not cordial for the last some time as their contradictions surfaced on many occasion like presidential elections, Lokpal bill, foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail and other issues.

It is noted that the relationship between both the partners in West Bengal has come to very bitter relationship where state Congress occasionally alleged failure of the state government.

On the other hand, TMC leadership had termed the state Congress as the B-team of the CPI-M and many issues were the bone of contention between them.
