Though user will only get their hands on Apple's new iOS 6 later in this year (most probably in last quarter) it's beta has been made available to the iOS Developer Program members.
Much awaited operating system of Apple was unveiled at keynote presentation during World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco on Monday.
The biggest change was the much-hyped removal of Google Maps (which has been an integral part of iOS since it's launch). It was a prominent app of iPhone but has now been replaced by Apple's own Map app. This move has deepened the ongoing rivalry between the two companies.
iOS6 will be a free upgrade to all those iPhones released after the year 2009. So this update will be available for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, the new iPad, iPad 2 and the iPod Touch.
iOS6 has 200 new features though some will not be available for all phones.
Let's take a look at the features of Apple's new iOS6.
Apple's own Map app:
This new Map app integrated with Siri will have voice navigation feature. It means people will be able to receive real time traffic update and it will also offer alternate routes.
It will be a 3-D map having a feature Flyover that will provide interactive 3D views. These 3D images have been taken through Helicopters.
Integrating Facebook into iOS6
Like the Twitter integration in the iOS 5, Facebook has been integrated to iOS6. Apple preferred social networking site Facebook over Google+.
Facebook will be directly integrated with your phone's calendar and contacts and hence event and birthdays will be seen on your device calendar as well.
Once logged in user will be able to post directly from Siri and apps like Photos, Safari and Maps.
Upgradation to Siri:
For the first time Siri will be available for iPad. Enhancement has made Siri to be used in 15 countries and understand and speak more languages like Spanish, Korean and Mandarin Chinese.
It will also be able to launch third party applications, check sports score and make a restaurant reservation.
Shared Photo Streams:
This new app will allow user to share photos with family and friends by just selecting the photos and choosing the contacts (whom to send) and Shared Photo Stream album will be available on their iOS devices, iPhoto and Aperture on their Mac, via the web or even through Apple TV.
Passbook:
Passbook is the latest feature of Apple available on iOS6. It will make it easy to keep all boarding passes, tickets and gift cards in one place.
It will also have the facility to scan iPhone and iPod Touch to use it as a coupon and will allow the owner get into a concert or check into the hotel.
Pass will pop up on the Lock Screen based on the location. For instance if you get to a movie theater or baseball stadium, Passbook will display the ticket. It will alert you to gate changes and flight delays.
Do Not Disturb option:
This will allow user to reject incoming call and incoming messages. User will have the power to control how and when they can revert to people. User can set a reminder to call back or text message a person later.
This app will also reminds you to call back by detecting when you are leaving a building or office.
