A private mini bus was hit by a speeding tempo on the Mumbai-Pune highway near Khalapur in Maharashtra. The unfortunate accident killed 26 people on the spot while 27 others are critically injured and have been taken to hospitals in Mumbai and Thane.
Tempo hit the bus from the rear when it was on the halt for rectifying some technical problem. The mishap happened after midnight on Monday.
Out of the 26 killed, eleven are women and four are children. At the time of accident most of the passengers were sleeping in the bus.
Passengers on this private bus were returning to Pune from a marriage party from Ghatkopar suburb of northeast Mumbai.
