Mayor of South Delhi Smt. Savita Gupta has said that Veer Savarkar was one of those freedom fighters who had many firsts to his credit and his contribution to the indian freedom movement cannot be forget. She was paying floral tributes to the great patriot, statesman and freedom fighter Veer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar on the occasion of his 129thbirth anniversary. SDMC organized a simple function at Lajpat Nagar where statue of Mr. Savarkar is situated.
On the occasion Savita Gupta acknowledged his contribution and praised his personality. She said that Veer Savarkar was the first Indian student who was rusticated from college owing to his patriotism. He was the first person who burnt foreign clothes and material. He was the first person who was awarded two life imprisonments. He was the first writer whose book was seized before publication. He was the first historian who declared mutiny of 1857 as first battle of India’s freedom.
Mr. Savarkar always wanted India to be a mighty nation after attaining independence. He was supporter of one nation, one language, unity and integrity of the nation. He was deadly against imitating western culture, she added.
