9 people went blind after undergoing cataract operation at a private hospital of Andhra Pradesh.
Victims underwent the operation three days ago and lost their vision allegedly by the negligence on the part of doctors.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the tragic incident on Sunday. "We are waiting for investigations to be over before deciding on an action," they said.
This hospital is in the town of Ongole, in southern part of Andhra Pradesh. However, the administrations at the hospital are saying the patients did not lose their eyesight due to medical negligence but because their retinas were already badly damaged.
The victims were then shifted to Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Hyderabad on Sunday. Chances of their regaining eyesight are dim, as the retinas had been mostly damaged.
