Chief Minister of West Bengal and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee is going for a rally today in Kolkata to protest against steep price hike in petrol.
Trinamool is the second largest ally of the UPA government at the Centre.
The rally will take place at South Kolkata and will start from Jadavpore to Hazra crossing covering a distance of 5 km.
Earlier on Wednesday Banerjee expressed displeasure at the petrol price hike and said, "It is unjust and unilateral. It was done without our knowledge. Parliament was in session till yesterday. Why was this not brought up and discussed in Parliament"?
However, she said she would not pull out of the UPA and was not threatening to destabilize the government. She also said that her party had the right to protest.
She also made it clear that her party will continue to support central government but it does not mean that they couldn't protest against what was wrong.
