The Causes of Jaundice

New Delhi, Tue, 03 Apr 2012 NI Wire

Jaundice is the disease which is mainly occurred from the liver problem or liver dysfunction which makes the patient vulnerable to be effected by the hepatitis virus. Though the viral cause of jaundice can be stated as the immediate source of the disease, the breeding ground of the disease is the poor liver function. With healthy liver function the hepatitis virus is more likely to be resisted by the body in a normal fashion except few forms of jaundice which need immediate medical diagnosis and therapy because of the severity of the disease in such cases which left without any treatment even can be threatening to life. So, from clinical perspective we would consider the causes of jaundice in relation to three major aspects which are respectively as, how one gets affected with jaundice, viruses which cause jaundice and liver and metabolic malfunctions which cause jaundice.

How one gets affected with Jaundice

The basic clinical observations of the disease states that jaundice is the direct cause of high amount of bilirubin in our blood and this causes the yellowing symptoms of jaundice. The organic process which produces bilirubin is one of the necessary constituents for our digestion and whole metabolic process. Hemoglobin or the iron containing substance of red blood cells are destroyed to extract oxygen and iron for our metabolic process and the rest of the substance becomes a west product in our body and this organic waste is called bilirubin. The main clinical causes of jaundice is associated with the production of this extraction process, production of this organic waste product called bilirubin and removal of bilirubin from the body. The clinical causes of jaundice can be summarized into two major areas which we would mention here. Firstly jaundice is caused by the excessive production of bilirubin in the liver which then without being removed causes the yellowing symptoms of jaundice. Secondly, with defects or malfunctioning of liver bilirubin is removed from the body and with the accumulation of this organic waste the signs and symptoms of jaundice starts to show up.

Viral causes of Jaundice

Viral hepatitis which causes jaundice is becoming more common than yesteryears, mainly because of the rise in deficiency of immune power and disease like AIDS. Particularly hepatitis B had long been a concern as it causes acute symptoms of jaundice and deteriorates the health condition of the patient very fast.

Liver malfunctions which cause Jaundice

Liver malfunction or liver problems are the base causes of jaundiced which make other potential causes of jaundice to flourish and grow. When the liver either produces enough bilirubin which it cannot remove or when it cannot remove bilirubin from the body, the symptoms of jaundice is likely to show up.

Other diseases which cause Jaundice

There are a number of other diseases which cause jaundice either because of the weakening of immune system or the weakening of liver function. Some of the diseases which as a after effect or side effect can cause jaundice are, malaria, typhoid, tuberculosis, chronic liver diseases, etc. Among other medical conditions which are very likely to cause jaundice include, hemolysis or the disease which is known for rapid destruction of Hemoglobin in our red blood cells and the defect in the process of the production of our red blood cells.

Among all the causes of jaundice mentioned here, lever malfunction is considered to be the most important contributing factor in majority of jaundice cases and maximum number of cases of jaundice can either be prevented of cured with proper liver care and keeping the liver healthy is the best way to prevent jaundice.
