Tinsukia (Assam), Dec. 27 (ANI): In a shocking incident, the owner of a tea garden and his wife were burnt to death by labourers on Wednesday in Assam's Tinsukia District for failing to address their issues.
Mridul Kumar Bhattacharyya and his wife Rita were attacked with sharp weapons by about 200 workers before being set on fire inside their bungalow. Police said bodies had been burnt beyond recognition.
The attackers on set the official quarters of the garden's manager ablaze and vandalised other parts of the property.
Media reports said that for the past two months, differences had surfaced between the tea garden management and labourers over salaries not being paid to them.
There were reports of the owner attempting to molest a girl working in the garden.
The situation is said to be tense in the area. (ANI)
