Jalpaiguri, Dec. 27 (ANI): Over 150 domestic and foreign participants have come together to set up stalls at the 6th Industrial Trade Fair-2012 in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, which began on December 25 and will continue till December 31.
raders from various states and neighbouring Bangladesh will showcase their handicrafts and handloom products during this week-long fair.
Shoppers flocked to the fair making their way through stacks of sarees, large collections of handbags and a wide variety of handicrafts.
Traders from across the border said such events helped them interact with a new customer base and, in their own way, improve ties between both countries.
"I am very happy to be here. Through this fair, we are able to meet all kinds of people and help strengthen bilateral relations. The best thing is that we do not feel as if we have come to another country. It feels like home here," said Shakil Ahmed, a Bangladeshi trader.
The shoppers, while a little plaintive about the prices, were appreciative of the choices on offer.
"We have a habit of assimilating the culture of different places. There are beautiful sarees from many places here. They are costly because of the exhibition, but then the traders have to recover their costs. But the collections are beautiful," said Nilu Jha, a customer.
The organizers and the participants have also communicated to their governments and expressed their desire to organize more such fairs in future. (ANI)
