'Facial hair transplant' gaining popularity in Turkey

Sydney , Thu, 27 Dec 2012 ANI

Sydney, Dec 27 (ANI): Facial hair transplant is increasingly becoming popular in Turkey, with follically challenged men flying in to make the most of the services on offer in the country.

Tulunay, a doctor, said that moustache and beard implants started to gain popularity two years ago, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

He also said that now about 10 to 15 of his 60 monthly hair transplant patients ask for facial hair transplantation. Most of these people are from the Middle East.

He said that as facial hair is associated with masculinity in Turkey and in Arab countries the lack of it can cause social difficulties.

Businessmen are opting to get beard and moustache implants, as their business partners do not take them seriously if they don't sport facial hair, he said.

Ali Mezdegi, a cosmetic surgeon, said that many of his patients asked for transplants before they took a second, third, or even fourth wife, as thick hair is a status symbol, and a sign of strength and virility in Gulf countries.

Irfan Atik, general manager of a tourism agency, that specializes in hair transplant tour packages, estimates that minimum of 50 Arab tourists go to Istanbul every day for getting hair implant done. (ANI)
