Hyderabad, Dec 26 (IANS) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Andhra Pradesh Wednesday raided residences of state Public Service Commission (APPSC) member Ripunjay Reddy and Suryanarayana Reddy alias Sureedu for allegedly owning assets disproportionate to their sources of income.
Sureedu was the personal assistant of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy alias YSR who died in a helicopter crash in 2009.
ACB officials conducted simultaneous raids on the residences of Sureedu, Ripunjay Reddy and their relatives in Hyderabad and Kadapa.
ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police Narasimha Reddy told reporters that they had identified several properties owned by Ripunjay Reddy.
They include five houses, four apartments and five plots in and around Hyderabad, Tirupati, Kadapa and other places.
The officials, who seized documents and froze their bank accounts, are also probing allegations that Ripunjay Reddy also owns assets in Sureedu's name.
Eight teams of ACB conducted the raids at Sureedu's residence at Gayatri Nagar in Jubilee Hills and at Ripunjay Reddy's residence in Yusufguda, Hyderabad and other locations.
Sureedu had immense clout with politicians and officials due to his proximity to YSR.
Sureedu initially turned a witness against Rajasekhara Reddy's son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy in an illegal assets case but later refused to record his statement before a magistrate.
