Drug racket busted in Hyderabad, two held

Hyderabad, Dec 25 (IANS) Hyderabad police busted an international drug racket with the arrest of two drug-peddlers including a Nigerian, selling cocaine to the youth and high-salaried professionals.

As much as 35 grams of cocaine and five cell phones were seized from the duo.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma told reporters Tuesday that the accused, who had come from Mumbai to sell the drugs during Christmas and New Year season, were arrested in the upmarket Jubilee Hills neighbourhood.

Okoro Mathias Chukwudi, 28, a Nigerian national, and Sanku Durga Prasad, a native of East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, were both residing in Mumbai.

The Nigerian national, who arrived in Mumbai on a business visa in August this year, came in contact with drug peddler James, a Ghanian national, and started assisting him in selling of drugs in Mumbai.

The investigations revealed that James, while leaving for Ghana a month ago, handed over cocaine to Okoro and also introduced Durga Prasad, who was involved in drug peddling both in Mumbai and Hyderabad.

The duo came to Hyderabad on Dec 21 to sell cocaine to their customers. The police commissioner said further investigations were on to unearth their network with other local and foreign drug dealers.
