Police Commissioner rejects SDM's charges, says 'girl's mother did not want her video-taped'

New Delhi, Dec 25 (ANI): Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar on Tuesday rejected Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Usha Chaturvedi's charges that the men in uniform interfered when the victim's statement was being recorded, saying it was the girl's mother who did not want her daughter's statement to be video-taped.

"The girl's mother objected to videography of the statement," he told mediapersons here.

Kumar further said the police did not give any questionnaire to the SDM.

"Police called SDM Usha Chaturvedi to record the statement. Police briefed the SDM with case details on her request. The police gave no questionnaire to the SDM. If SDM had reservations, she shouldn't have recorded the statement," he said.

According to reports, SDM of Vasant Vihar, Usha Chaturvedi, has alleged that the police tried to intimidate her and interfere with the crucial process partly be dissuading the student's mother from allowing the statement on camera.

The 23-year-old girl, who was gang-raped on a moving bus, gave her account of what actually happened to a judge for the second time today at the Safdarjung Hospital here.

The gang-rape survivor's statement will be used in the trial of the six men arrested in connection with the ghastly incident.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has written a letter to Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in which she has demanded that a high-level inquiry should be ordered into reports that top policemen interfered in the recording of the gang-rape survivor's statement. (ANI)
