Brit newlyweds on record-breaking 2yr honeymoon bicycle ride from NZ to London

London, Dec 25 (ANI): A couple from Britain has reportedly planned to beat a previous tandem journey record of 38,143kms from New Zealand to London.

Kat and Steve Turner, who had been attacked by dogs, battled through Arctic temperatures, searing heat, torrential rain during their journey, have only completed a quarter of the trip, the Daily Mail reported.

Kat had to learn how to ride a bike before selling possessions and leaving home for a two-year honeymoon in a record-breaking attempt to travel the world on a tandem bicycle, sleeping in a tiny two-man tent.

The couple gave up well-paid jobs as a teacher and caseworker for the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman and left their home to cycle from New Zealand back to their home in Forest Hill, London.

The 31-year-old said that the first four months of the trip were difficult as they cycled through gallons of rain and waves of gales.

The woman further revealed that she felt as if they were constantly soaked and that sometimes she wanted to give this up, in order to enjoy a beer and good company with friends or the warmth of a fire or a Sunday roast at mum's or a belly-aching laugh with my brother or a family knees-up in Plymouth.

She said that even working in a dry office felt tempting at times.

The pair, who got some training in UK before setting off on their global voyage, planned to complete this trip to raise money for the British international development charity Practical Action.

The 33-year-old man asserted that they found first months difficult, as other than cycle they didn't have the energy or the contacts to do very much.

He further said that at first they were not sure whether they could execute their plans, but after completing six months and the Australian Outback they feel much more confident that they can do this.

The couple, who will now travel through Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and China, said that the world record is just something they see as an extra fun, and if they complete the journey it would be the most remarkable achievement for them. (ANI)
