Du Plessis says Proteas anticipated Kiwis fight back

Johannesburg , Tue, 25 Dec 2012 ANI

Johannesburg, Dec 25(ANI): South Africa Twenty20 captain Faf du Plessis has said they had expected a strong backlash from the New Zealand team after the Kiwis lost the first T20 match but won the second match by eight wickets.

The Black Caps overcame a poor first outing on Friday in Durban, to put themselves back into the series with an eight-wicket win (D/L method) in the second match, Sport24 reports.

Du Plessis said that New Zealand has always been a great fighting team, and they never took them lightly.

The all rounder said that the Black Caps have match winners in their team which was the case with Martin Guptill on Sunday, as he played a fantastic innings, and added that the New Zealand team deserved to win.

Guptil's 69-ball century outshone an average bowling performance from the Proteas, in challenging coastal conditions. (ANI)
